Get your boots ready for the start of the new term …Only Girls Allowed is back.

The Only Girls Allowed project has been funded by The Football Conference Trust, Barrow Borough Sports Council, Inspiring Barrow and Cumbria Community Foundation. The Project has the aim of encouraging girls and young women to become more physically active through involvement in organised football sessions. The project is very grateful to the Football Conference Trust who are the main funders of the project. Without their generous support, it is unlikely the project would take place.

Last year Barrow AFC Community Sports received funding from The Football Conference Trust, Barrow Borough Sports Council, Inspiring Barrow and Cumbria  Community Foundation to deliver a project called Only Girls Allowed. This project was designed to maximise participation in girls’ football in the local area. Coaches from the Community Sports Team worked in schools delivering PE curriculum football to girls in Year 6 at twenty primary schools in the local area. After a block of coaching all the schools were invited to take part in a tournament where the girls could put into practice everything they had learned. The tournament gave the girls a taste of what it is like to play competitive football and hopefully encouraged them to go on and join a local girls football team.

Holiday Football Camps for girls were also organised, around 50 girls attended and were coached by Yasmine Swarbrick.

The Only Girls Allowed project also ran weekly where girls between the ages of 5-11 were invited to come along for free coaching sessions. These sessions were held in a central location in Barrow to ensure that as many girls as possible had access to this exciting project. The overall aim of the project was to raise awareness of girl’s football by providing girls with access to quality coaching sessions run in a safe environment where they could learn new skills and their football.
