On a bitterly cold day at the Furness Building Society Stadium, the Bluebirds fell to defeat against a well organised Dagenham side.
There were few goal-scoring opportunities overall, but a well-worked move ten minutes after the break earned the Daggers all three points.
In the first ten minutes, Stuart Moore saved a cross from Corey Whitely and then a free kick from Scott Doe. In the 17th minute, another powerful Whitely cross was punched away for a corner, resulting in a goalmouth scramble which, to the relief of Barrow fans, was finally cleared.
Barrow’s first chance came 20 minutes in when Harry Panayiotou’s sharp shot from the edge of the area sailed just over the crossbar. Five minutes later, Mark Cousins saved a low shot from Bedsente Gomis.
The last 20 minutes of the half provided little excitement at either end and it looked, as we went into the break, that a goalless draw was on the cards.
However, in the 56th minute, a ball forward by Andre Boucard was crossed by Whitely. This was saved but Morgan Ferrier tapped in the rebound. Two minutes later, Moore saved a free kick from Whitely.
It was time for changes; just after the hour Panayiotou was replaced by debutant Lewis Walters and then Grant Holt came on for Jordan White. This almost brought immediate dividends as, following a ball from Byron Harrison, Cousins had to save a shot from Grant Holt.
Bloomfield then replaced Cheek for the visitors and Adi Yussuf took over from Harrison. Just after Kandi replaced Ferrier in the 80th minute, a Whitely free kick from the right resulted in a Bloomfield strike which Moore had to parry for a corner.
Barrow nearly equalised in the 89th minute when Gomis crossed to Holt whose powerful shot brought a good save from Cousins.
However, in the end it was defeat for the Bluebirds who next head to Nuneaton Town in the FA Trophy.
Barrow’s man of the match was awarded to Jimmy Dunne.
Our thanks to Derek for the fantastic report.
