An updated club statement on the departure of Richie Bennett, and a Squad update.
As part of the plan to be sustainable as a football club, we focus on finding talented young players who are ambitious about playing football higher up the football pyramid. We are proud that we have been able to take three players like Richie and develop them into football league players. Whilst we would prefer they stayed with us to achieve the ambition of playing league football, sometimes they wish to move on earlier.
While Richie was set to play a big role in the upcoming season for Barrow AFC, Carlisle United triggered a release clause in his contract which meant we could not prevent him leaving. We thank Richie for all his hard work in a Barrow shirt and wish him well for the coming season at Carlisle.
We are now 8 days from the start of the season with a squad of 17 players. Joel Dixon and Dan Cockerline are now back in training, whilst Byron Harrison and Andy Parry are scheduled to return to action in late September.
The management team have a list of targets with football league pedigree, including a striker to replace Bennett. We are confident of securing deals for these players within the next seven days.
