Born in Sandown on the Isle of Wight, Stuart played junior football with Bradfield Town and Portsmouth before joining the Reading Academy set up in 2011. He spent the 2011-12 season on loan to Hungerford Town in the Evo-stik Southern League South and West Division and the following season made 33 appearances in the Premier Division of the same competition on loan to Bashley.
The 2013-14 season saw him have two loan spells – four games for Gloucester City in what is now Vanarama North and four more in the South competition for Batch City. He spent the whole of the 2014-15 season on loan to Basingstoke Town in Vanarama South making forty eight appearances and collecting their “Player of the Season” award. He played four games on loan for Peterborough United in League One after joining them on loan in February 2016 and he spent the last three months of the 2016-17 season on loan with Luton Town in League Two and made eight appearances for them, featuring in the Play Off Final.
He featured for the Reading under 21 and 23 teams but never made a first team appearance for them before being released at the end of June 2017 and joining Barrow.
